October 27 - Strategies and Guidance for parents of children with ADHD and/or Learning Disabilities, a program from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Parent Resource Center. October 28 - The Suffolk Reading Council is sponsoring a “Fathers Raising Readers” workshop at Elephant’s Fork Elementary School beginning at 6:30 p.m. This workshop is presented by Dr. Deran Whitney, Deputy Superintendent for Suffolk Public Schools. Come learn how to encourage your child to become a lifelong reader. Strategies will be shared to help your child become a confident reader and develop a love for reading. Learn about partner reading, “What Good Readers Do,” at-home dialogue journals, family read-aloud time, turning every day tasks into rich learning opportunities, promoting literacy in the car and many other activities that will help your child improve reading skills and develop a love for reading. All parents (Moms, included) of students in Pre-K through 5th grade are encouraged to attend. Take-home literature packets and free books will be distributed to all parents in attendance. November 3 - “Homework Survival Workshop” at Booker T. Washington Elementary at 6:30 p.m. End the nightly battle over homework with a practical approach to developing good study skills that will
last a lifetime.
