NAEP Testing February 10 LHS has been selected to participate in the 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). Only six high schools from Virginia were chosen to participate in the testing. NAEP stands for the National Assessment of Educational Progress. You may have heard about its results in The Nation's Report Card. It's the only national assessment that shows what students across the country know and can do in subjects such as reading and mathematics. It is different from our state assessments and even the SAT and ACT because it represents all high school students across the country, not just those here in Virginia or those who plan to go on to college. Why should parents encourage their child to participate? NAEP is important. The results of NAEP are released in The Nation's Report Card and they help the President, Congress, and all of our educators make decisions about how to improve our educational system. Encouraging your child to participate and do his/her best gives him/her the opportunity to show policymakers what American students know and can do. This information will help policymakers make informed decisions that affect students. What does students have to do? Students will be selected at random to participate in the NAEP Testing. Students will need to be out of class for a little more than 90 minutes to participate in the assessment. His/her score is completely anonymous, and he/she does not need to study for NAEP. We encourage students to get a good amount of sleep the night before and to eat breakfast that morning.
