Ways That Weather Changes
  • Wind

  • Temperature

  • Precipitation

5
What is Precipitation?
  • Precipitation occurs when:
  • Water that has evaporated has condensed and changed from a gas (air) into a liquid (rain) or a solid (snow or sleet)

  • Precipitation =   Evaporation + Condensation

6
The Water Cycle
7
Weather eXtremes
  • A drought occurs when there is not enough precipitation.  A drought means the land has not had water for a very long time.

  • A flood occurs when too much precipitation falls in a very short time.

8
Storms

  • Snow

Hurricanes
  • Hurricanes form over water and create lots of rain, big waves and high winds.

Thunderstorms
  • Thunderstorms occur when the lightening heats up the air and the air expands quickly which causes it to thunder.

13
Recording Weather
  • Thermometers measure:  temperature

  • Weather vanes measure: wind direction

  • Rain Gauges measure:   amount of rainfall
14
How Does Weather Affect You?
