Rich in history, Booker T. Washington Elementary was originally built in 1953 as the city’s new black high school. In 1999, the school underwent major renovations and maintains its place of honor in the local downtown community.

Unique to Booker T. Washington Elementary is its selection by the Virginia Department of Education for the competitive Comprehensive School Reform grant. This three year grant allowed the school to implement a Balanced-Literacy Approach to improve student learning.

“Your child will thrive here, and you will always be welcomed,” said Principal Patricia Montgomery. “Come and see for yourself.”
