Highlights

Forest Glen Middle School is located in the central section of the City of Suffolk. In June 1990, Forest Glen High School closed its doors and reopened in September 1990 as a middle school. Through all of its changes, our school, rich with heritage, has provided a healthful, quiet atmosphere conducive to learning. The communities in which our students reside range from inner city areas to rural sections of the city. Our school has a friendly atmosphere comprising a small learning environment.

Forest Glen Middle School is committed to providing a stimulating and enriching educational experience for all of its students. The school’s emphasis is upon teaching the total child. Its mission is to equip students with basic and critical thinking skills in order to be productive in a competitive, technological, and culturally diverse society. While keeping pace with the latest research in curricular design, the school takes pride in having a supportive staff and safe learning environment.

Shining Stars

Three 8th-graders competed in the Tidewater Regional Science Fair:  Quinn Bradshaw, in behavioral science; Rachel Bradshaw in environmental analysis; and Jacob Chappell in chemistry.

Sixth-grader Brittany Brooks represented the school in the Virginian-Pilot's first annual regional spelling bee.

Sydney Folsom, Matthew Jones, Devon Dunston and Zachary Warner represented Forest Glen in the All-City Band.

Katie Mitchell and Lonnie Sessoms represented FGMS at the All-District Chorus competition.

100 percent of the school's orchestra students reached the level to perform in the All-City Strings.  Tyler Mizelle represented FGMS in the regional orchestra.

City-Wide PTA Reflections first-place winners for the theme “My Favorite Place” were Brittany Evans in music composition, Jessica March in photography, and Trey Wright in video production.

The Junior Beta Club collected funds for United Way and supported the local homeless shelter, Toys for Tots, Military Mail Call, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Brittany Evans, Mary Francis, Ava Artis, Laronda Murphy, Amanda Wheeler and Casey Arthur earned spots in the City-Wide Young Writers contest.

 

2007 Test Scores
The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) are a framework of basic skills students in each grade level should learn in English, math, science, social studies, and technology.

The SOL tests are given each spring to measure students' success in meeting these state standards. State benchmarks for 2007 is a 70 percent pass rate in all subjects.
