News You Can Use from Human Resources
Master's Degree Supplement Information
Employees who have already earned their Master's Degree
and are currently receiving the supplement do not need to take
further action.
The following information applies to those currently working
towards their Master's degree.
All work
completed toward a Master's Degree for the 1st
semester must be received in the School Administration Office
on or before October 15th. Second semester work is due on or
before February 15th.
All Master's Degree supplements are given in one-half (1/2)
increments.
Employees must provide the following information to Erma Goodman
or Beth Simpkins, in the Human Resources Department:
•
Notice of Admission to Graduate
School;
•
Copy of an Approved Program or
Course of Study leading to the
Master's Degree;
•
Official Statement from the college
setting forth the number of
semester hours required
for the Master's Degree; and
•
An official transcript.
Employees completing their Master's Degree in May need to have
an official transcript
sent to Human Resources as soon as possible
in order for the supplement
to be included in the 2007-08 contract.
An addendum to the contract
will be issued if transcripts are
received after June.
Star Award
With
the beginning of a new school year comes the opportunity to
recognize more of our outstanding employees. We recognize our
brightest stars four times a year beginning in November. All
employees are eligible for the Star Award. Written nominations
should be submitted directly to Human Resources and should include
information that demonstrates that the employee has achieved
a major accomplishment; showed extraordinary commitment to students,
parents, community, school or school division; showed initiative
or impacted a student and/or school in a positive way. Nomination
forms may be downloaded from the website, follow the Star Award
link on the left hand side of this page or obtained from your
school, department or the Human Resources office.
A selection committee reviews and rates the nominations. The
scores are tabulated and a Star Employee of the Quarter for
Instruction and a Star Employee for Support are selected, and
then recognized at a School Board meeting. The winners receive
a $50 savings bond, award certificate, and are featured in the
Stargazer and on the division’s website.
Meet this quarter's winners.
A
new requirement for Virginia teachers seeking initial licensure
or license renewal after July 2004 is the study in child
abuse recognition and intervention. A free on-line course is
available through Virginia Commonwealth University which will
fulfill this requirement. It is called "Child Abuse and Neglect:
Recognizing, Reporting and Responding for Educators." School
administrators will also be posting the course on the district
website. In both cases, once teachers complete the study, a
certificate will be available for them to share with their principal
for their recertification records.
Child
Abuse & Neglect: Recognizing, Reporting & Responding
(district-only access)
This training module is designed to help you, as a teacher,
address the problem of child maltreatment by learning how
to recognize possible abuse/neglect, report it to the appropriate
agency, and provide support to children who may have been
victimized.
